My Guide Website?
Are you in the market for a taxidermy wild boar with ram’s horns, wearing lipstick, or a framed sculpture of evil babies faces? What about an authentic pair of Queen Victoria’s undies, or a life size sculpture of a Blackamoor candle holder from the Italian Opera tour of mid last century? Then set your curiosity free at, what is being billed as, TheGarage Sale of the Century.
The Newman family, who recently closed their iconic Dracula’s theatre in Melbourne - having had a successful run of over three decades – are selling their venue décor and some of their private collection. Over 300 items will be sold, from small latex cast wall décor skulls to framed pictures and fittings. The Garage Sale will take place at Dracula’s venue in Carlton (opposite the City Baths).
Everything from bar fittings and glassware to life size skeletons and leadlight windows will be available. Some feature collectables including authentic life casts of the faces of Horror movie stars Vincent Price, Basil Rathbone and Christopher Lee will be there. Other you-won’t-see-every-day items include two taxidermy vultures and over 30 large taxidermy animal heads, including two giant water buffalos.
It’s a rare opportunity for people to pick up a keep-safe souvenir from a bygone era, from the spectacularly kitsch and wonderful world of Melbourne theatre restaurant.
