The Melbourne Big Band Festival is a brand new jazz festival which aims to celebrate the wide and eclectic large ensemble scene right here in our jazz capital.
Designed as a vehicle to promote, educate and commemorate, the various ensembles come together in a melting pot of musical expression and celebration. The Melbourne Big Band Festival is based at the Cross Street Music Hall, a unique and renowned institution within the Australian music landscape.
The program features a diverse collection of music spanning from the 1920’s classics to the contemporary era of the jazz orchestra.
The debut festival aspires to please everyone, young and old, and we encourage everyone to come down and get involved in this powerful and exciting art form.
Bring your family and friends to wander through our music marketplace and enjoy phenomenal live music, fantastic food and a variety of goodies for sale.
Together, the festival board is dedicated to creating an atmosphere unrepresented by any other jazz festival in the country. By bringing the community, culture and public all together in the same place, for the same reason –this will undoubtedly be an event to remember.
