Lorne

Melbourne Lorne Theatre 78 Mountjoy Parade LORNE

19 September 2019 marks the 100th birthday of the Great Ocean Road.

A special event series which shares ‘The Story of the Road’, detailing its construction by World War I returned servicemen and their lives as they built the 243- kilometre road, joining the isolated towns lining the western Victorian coastline.

Established in the 1930s to meet the demand of tourism as a result of completion of the Great Ocean Road.

The Lorne Theatre is the ideal venue for one of three exclusive screenings, the other two being further down the road in Apollo Bay.

The Lorne Theatre, with its original finishes include terrazzo floors, geometrically patterned ceiling panels and fixtures such as seating and lighting, is one of the few remaining early single-screen movie houses left in country Victoria. Also screened at the Apollo Bay Mechanics Hall.

The special screening event is complete with swing band The Sugarfoot Ramblers, vintage treats and guests may enjoy a French 75 by Great Ocean Road Gin and specially brewed 1920s beer recipe from local brewery Prickly Moses. Whilst viewing the documentary, guests will be exported back to the 30s, encouraged to dress for the occasion.

Join us for a special night at the flicks.

Launched as part of an event series which includes screenings and pop-up cinemas across the region which show short films specific to each location. For more information on the celebrations, visitgreatoceanroad.org.au/iam100
