Guess what time of year it is again? Yes! It's time for World Penguin Weekend 2017!
Join us this weekend of nature-based activities for the whole family and help celebrate one of our favourite Island residents - the penguins!
PLANETARY PENGUINS
Phillip Island Nature Parks’ education rangers will be hosting four half hour sessions focused on penguins of the world. Guests can learn about the various species, the habitats and behavioural differences, including providing a more in depth insight into Phillip Island’s famous little penguins.
When: Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 April 10.30am – 11.00am and 2.00pm – 2.30pm

CRAFTY CREATIONS
Guests across the weekend will have the opportunity to go home with a personalised penguin themed pencil holder. Phillip Island Nature Parks will be helping kids create a wildlife themed creation to celebrate World Penguin Day all year round.
When: Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 April 11.00am – 12.00pm and 2.30pm – 3.30pm

LITTLE PENGUINS, BIG CHALLENGES
Phillip Island Nature Parks’ penguin researcher and biologist, Dr Andre Chiaradia, will be exploring the challenges that face the Island’s famous little residents, the penguins. Visitors will learn how these fascinating creatures deal with day-to-day issues including climate change, marine pollution and reliable food supplies.
When: Saturday 22 April 12.30pm – 1.30pm

MARINE DEBRIS - WHAT A LOAD OF RUBBISH!
Phillip Island Nature Parks’ researcher Dr Bec McIntosh will be teaching families how marine debris can affect wildlife and the environment in the WWF Antarctic Journey Lab and what can be done at home to prevent pollution. Attendees will see first hand what type of rubbish ends up in the ocean as well as the consequential, devastating impact they can have on the surrounding environment.
When: Sunday 23 April 12.30pm – 1.30pm
Recommended age group: 6+ years
All activities will be hosted at the WWF Antarctic Journey (1320 Ventnor Road, Summerlands) and are accessible with an Antarctic Journey entry ticket or 4 Parks Pass which includes entry to the Penguin Parade, Antarctic Journey, Churchill Island Heritage Farm, and Koala Conservation Centre.
