Mt Macedon – stunning views across the bay

The idyllic little village of Mount Macedon used to be the summer retreat for Melbourne's upper class, a small oasis away from the hustle and bustle of the city's summer heat. Until today, the place has maintained its British country charms with small cottages and neat gardens and parks. Today many of these cottages host tearooms and small private art galleries.

From the village of Mt Macedon the road winds up the hill through thick ferns and towering eucalypt trees.

On the peek you will find the impressive Memorial Cross, which was put up to commemorate Australia's fallen soldiers of both World Wars. The cross overlooks the entire Mt Macedon ranges and, on a clear day, a great part of the Port Phillip Bay.

Stop at the Camel's Hump car park for a short walk through untamed nature to the lookout. The Camel's Hump is also a popular spot for rock climbing. If you follow the road back down the hill, you will reach the magnificent Hanging Rock. The twin spa towns of Daylesford and Hepburn Springs are a one-hour drive from Mt Macedon.
