Description

Peel back the gentrified layers of modern Fitzroy to reveal a neighborhood built on extreme wealth and corrupted by extreme poverty. Trace Fitzroy’s dramatic transitions, from the aristocratic mansions of the 1880s 'Marvellous Melbourne' boom to the squalid, overcrowded boarding houses that bred the city's most notorious criminals. Armed with a custom booklet filled with declassified crime scene photos, visually bridge the gap between past and present. Go beyond the police files and see how the architecture, economics, and strict liquor laws of the era created the perfect storm for gangsters like Squizzy Taylor. Explore the very streets where high society and the criminal underworld violently collided.
