Anglesea: Coast and Kangaroos
Located along Victoria’s famed Great Ocean Road, Anglesea is a seaside town boasting fresh air, clear blue waters and wide sandy beaches. It’s the ideal spot to swim, surf, relax by the water, or explore the striking coast and abundant beauty of the nearby Angahook-Lorne State Park. Don’t miss the kangaroos, for which the town is well-known.
Anglesea is an aquatic-lover's paradise. Enjoy the town’s beautiful main beach situated beside the Anglesea River - go fishing, surfing or take an interesting and refreshing boat tour. The protected waters of nearby Point Roadknight Beach make it a popular family choice, and nearby Aireys Inlet is also home to stunning beaches.
The town is ideally located for you to step onto the 30km Surf Coast Walk, a picturesque route along secluded sands and beautiful bays beneath striking sheer cliffs.
Another popular option is a drive through the Surf Coast Hinterland. Take the Forest Road to the lovely rural town of Winchelsea where you can stroll by heritage mansions, browse through antique stores or enjoy refreshments at one of the charming tea-rooms.
Anglesea has been a popular family destination for many years and is also frequented by couples and groups. There’s an eclectic mix of accommodation to suit everyone and plenty of shops and restaurants. Don’t miss a good fossick through the Anglesea Riverside Market.
And what about those kangaroos?
A family of Australia’s favourite marsupials have made the Anglesea Golf Club home. See them frolic on eucalypt-lined fairways as you enjoy a round of golf or the fabulous food and wine of the Clubhouse Bistro. What better way is there to finish the day than a sunset drink overlooking the beautiful greens that the kangaroos call home?
