Description
Travel one of Australia’s most iconic routes on this 3-day overland journey from Adelaide to Melbourne. Experience rugged mountain landscapes, rich Aboriginal heritage, dramatic coastlines, and world-famous natural landmarks at a relaxed pace.
The journey begins in Adelaide, crossing the Adelaide Hills and the South Australian–Victorian border. Western Victoria’s plains give way to the sandstone ranges of Grampians National Park (Gariwerd), known for ancient geology and cultural significance. Explore towering peaks, panoramic lookouts, and waterfalls.
On day one, visit scenic viewpoints and MacKenzie Falls, where water plunges into a deep gorge. End the day in Halls Gap, surrounded by native bushland frequently visited by kangaroos and birdlife.
Day two includes a hike to the Pinnacles lookout with extensive views, followed by travel south to volcanic plains. Explore Tower Hill Conservation Reserve, an extinct volcano rich in wildlife such as emus, kangaroos, and koalas, as well as Aboriginal history. Finish in Warrnambool, a coastal town with a relaxed atmosphere.
The final day covers the Great Ocean Road, with morning visits to the Twelve Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge, and other formations along the Shipwreck Coast. Learn about the region’s maritime history and journey through Great Otway National Park’s rainforest. Stop for lunch in Apollo Bay, then follow the road past surf beaches and clifftop viewpoints, ending at the Great Ocean Road Memorial Arch. Arrival in Melbourne is planned for the evening.
