Description
Begin by taking a tram to the Shrine of Remembrance, a World War I memorial offering panoramic views of Melbourne. Walk past the Melbourne Observatory, the original site of the Great Melbourne Telescope.
Continue through the Royal Botanic Gardens, either independently or on an optional 30-minute guided tour via the Explorer Shuttle open-air minibus (additional $10 AUD per person, subject to availability).
Stop for a coffee near the Ornamental Lake, then cross the Yarra River to Melbourne Park. Learn about the history of the Australian Open and see Rod Laver Arena, with photo opportunities at the external courts.
Visit the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) to hear stories about this iconic stadium. You may choose to join a stadium tour, available for purchase on site.
The tour can be done in reverse, ending at the Shrine of Remembrance for independent exploration.
