This tour takes you through some of the former gold mining areas in Central Victoria, and on to Ballarat, Victoria’s largest city. In Ballarat, explore Sovereign Hill, the living museum that recreates Ballarat’s Gold Rush days. Sovereign Hill gives you a thorough 1850s experience complete with working machinery from 150 years ago, old-style shops, and traditional craftsmen. In Sovereign Hill, take a stroll to learn about the living and working conditions of miners, and how the Gold Rush shaped Australia and its people. You can try your hand at panning for gold, and enjoy an underground mine tour that features period machinery and traditional craftsmen.
