Local Picks - Accommodation in Melbourne

All of these accommodation options are chosen by our Melbourne Local Expert team, the people who actually live here and know what works best. These picks are not just pulled from algorithms or boosted by ads, but are selected based on genuine local insight and first-hand experience.

Whether you want to stay close to the city buzz in Fitzroy or prefer the calmer vibe of St Kilda by the water, these recommendations come from folks who’ve tried and tested them themselves. You’ll find a good mix of places that capture Melbourne’s unique character, from heritage-listed boutique spots to modern apartments with leafy outlooks, especially popular in spring and summer.

One tip: in winter, booking somewhere with a cozy nook or a fireplace, often found in Carlton or Southbank, can really transform your stay. Our Local Picks update regularly to keep up with changing seasons and new openings, so you’re always getting fresh advice from real Melburnians.

A local stay tip

If you’re spending some time in Melbourne during the colder months, look for accommodation around Carlton or Southbank that offers a cozy atmosphere. Many older buildings in these areas have fireplaces or small lounge nooks that make a big difference when it’s grey and rainy outside. Staying near local cafes in these neighbourhoods also means you can easily pop out for a flat white or baked goods to warm up. It’s a simple way to experience comfort in a city that can get quite chilly in winter, without losing the city buzz.
