There is great food and pubs nearby and for activities try out surf lessons or horse riding on the beach or the slower pace would be to explore the town and port. Wildlife more your thing then, at the right itme of year, there's Tower Hill and Shearwater bird colony or Griffiths Island for whale watching and seals.
