The Kooyong Classic is firmly established as the premier lead up event to the Grand Slam of the Asia/Pacific, the Australian Open. As part of the Australian Summer of Tennis, the world’s top players will grace Kooyong’s famed centre court maintaining the club’s long and distinguished reputation as the ‘spiritual home of Australian tennis’.
The 2017 event will see a selection of the top tennis stars vying for the title of Kooyong Classic champion. With a rich history the event boasts previous winners including tennis greats Andre Agassi, Roger Federer, Andy Roddick, Lleyton Hewitt and Pat Cash and Bernard Tomic.
Aussie favourite Bernard Tomic, 2016 Kooyong champion and world number 12 David Goffin of Belgium, and long-time top tenner Richard Gasquet of France are confirmed for the 2017 tournament. Croatian Davis Cup stars Ivo Karlovic and young-gun Borna Coric will also feature on the player roster alongside Frenchmen Lucas Pouille and Gilles Simon, Russian Mikhail Youzhny and Japanese youngster Yoshihito Nishioka.
After a two decade absence, women will return to the famous Kooyong stadium as part of the player lineup. Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic, German Sabine Lisicki and Romanian Sorana Cirstea will play a round robin format which will see a women’s field at the Kooyong event for the first time since 1993 – and the first time ever on the Stadium court.
